Professional Development Facilitator

Marlon Cummings, PhD serves as a professional development facilitator with Strategic Learning Initiatives. Marlon provides workshops and instructional support to teachers. He facilitates and codesigns workshops, coaching sessions, and other research-based professional development. Marlon is an assistant professor in the College of Education at Governors State University. He works in the Interdisciplinary Leadership Doctoral Program, coordinating the superintendent concentration and teaches leadership theory, research methods and several courses on school reform and change. Marlon’s research focus on leadership and policy reform in the public sector is informed by fifteen years in education as a teacher, a professional development trainer, and over eight years as a Principal Consultant for the Illinois State Board of Education. Marlon received his PhD in Urban Education Policy Studies in 2013 from University of Illinois at Chicago. His dissertation explored leadership decision-making on policy implementation, with a focus on the privatization of school services. Dr. Cummings’ current research interests include urban school district reform, teacher practice, education leadership, educational policy analysis and implementation, and the inequities in educational access and attainment
